Hi, I`m MacGregor, a little guy budgie who was rescued from an aviary situation and came to Mickaboo in March 2020 with several guy pals when our owner could no longer care for us.

I eat a diet of Harrison pellets and seeds morning & afternoon. I am not that picky but am still scared of new things. But if you mix any new food in with my seed and pellets, I have the courage to try it. I also like lettuce & apples, tho I have a hard time taking those treats from a hand. Oh, I love millet from a hand just fine though!

In the time I have been in foster home, I have made great progress in learning about you humans. The vacuum cleaner no longer makes me jump. I have learned that food in a human`s hands is as tasty as from the dish. It takes me a minute or two to get my nerve up to jump on the hand, and I need a little bit more motivation to step up, but I eat with vigor once I make the move. I no longer bite the hand that is holding me.

With time and patience I could become a sweet tame bird friend. Maybe you have the patience to help me when I join your forever home?

I am a very calm bird and enjoy pats on the head every once in a great while. I am very curious and once I get over my fears, I like exploring things, mainly with my beak. When my foster parent motions for me to step up, I may nibble your finger a little, but I never break the skin and I don`t bite hard! I have been trained to tap my beak on a finger (kind of like target training but with a hand instead of a stick). I think I`d do great with responsible kids and first-time bird adopters. Maybe you have the patience to help me when I join your forever home?

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
