Hello! I`m Peru, a very young budgie whose visit to the vet showed an injured foot and foreign matter in my crop. I was born and have been been living in an aviary with my extended family. I cannot fly very well, so I cannot go back into an outdoor aviary. For coming from an aviary, I am a surprisingly good-natured little budgie! I`m not frantically scared of people, and I don`t even bite very hard - sort of "more in sorrow than in anger" bites. Did you know that young budgies like me are very easy to tame? All it takes is patience and millet. It`s also very possible to teach young budgies to talk (although Mickaboo makes NO promises that a particular bird will want to learn how!). Wouldn`t I be cute in your home?
In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
