Hi, I`m Ariel. I came to Mickaboo in March 2022 after flew into a backyard in Palo Alto and was captured by a kindly soul. No luck finding my owner so here I am in a Mickaboo foster home. My foster parent says I am the "daring young bird on the flying trapeze"! I climb on *everything,* try to insert myself into spaces & places where no bird belongs, and I will try anything. I did hurt my foot doing my daring budgie act, so I am in a hospital tank right now, and very, very bored. My foster parent added a swing, thinking I could sit on it and feel more "elevated." What did I do? I climbed over and under and through it, tried every position and location possible. THEN I hung upside down from the lid of the tank. After that, darn it, the swing disappeared. In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
